Existing Less Commonly Taught Languages (LCTL) or Indigenous Language Resources


Yolitia- Centro de Lenguas Indoamericanas

This is an online language learning service that offers classes in Mixeco, P’urhépecha, and “Maya”. These are languages that are primarily spoken in Mexico and are offered for Spanish speakers. The Archive of Indigenous Languages of Latin America

AILLA is a digital language archive of recordings, texts, and other multimedia materials in and about the indigenous languages of Latin America. AILLA’s mission is to preserve these materials and make them available to Indigenous Peoples, researchers, and other friends of these languages now and for generations to come.

The user can search by state, which is helpful for in-person programs. You can also see the level of instruction. When you click on a program you are given very clear general details.

National Council of Less Commonly Taught Languages

This website features information regarding language instruction in LCTL such as Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Yoruba, Russian, and Swahili, among others. This page offers connections to language learning opportunities in these languages and facilitates the exchange of knowledge in such languages.

National Foreign Language Center (University of Maryland):

NFLC at the University of Maryland is a hub for information for students, teachers and supervisors for compiling resources and research materials in different languages spoken throughout the world. Since 1986, the NFLC has been at the forefront developing language policy and resource development.

This is an indigenous language database with access to learning material for indigenous languages of North, Central and South America.

John Garcia (Mixteco, Nahautl)

This application offers limited vocabulary and language resources for Ancient Literary Mayan, Mixteco and Nahautl. These resources are mostly dictionaries but they also offer books to facilitate language learning.


iDecolonize

This page compiles a number of indigenous language learning applications used to develop language skills. Languages feature on this page include Inuktitut, Nyoogar, Iwaidja, Cree, Anindilyakwa, Maori, Inuvialuktun, Quecha, Aymara, Guaraní, among others. Though this page is a review of the applications available, it is a good launch point for access specific indigenous language learning material.
